"Every day I walk past this portrait in my house now and it makes me smile—
my kids faces, expressions—I just love the feeling it gives me.
I'm in awe and amazed that it's a drawing because it's so full of emotion!
Our children are all so different but Jessica captured each of them perfectly—especially in their eyes.
It's amazing! And now just three months later, I am cherishing that moment in her studio
and the chatter of my kids, the coloring and puzzles, because they have already grown up more!
Even they cannot believe that Jessica was able to draw them! They say, 'it's really me'.
Thank you for capturing a moment in time for our family. We cherish it every day." —JT
Another word about Family Portraits....
This is a charcoal drawing is 18"x24" and shows all of this family's children together.
Besides being a very special remembrance of them at this age, it can also serve another purpose.
I tell the parents that down the road when they are ready for a full oil painting, if they want me to take this exact picture as my reference to paint a large, full-color oil portrait—
as a bonus for them I will deduct the entire cost of the drawing off the cost for the oil painting.
That's having your cake and eating it too, don't you think? We freeze time with the photoshoot and drawing done at the perfect overall age, the drawing is enjoyed now, and then later there can be a full oil painting.
When doing a family portrait, I always recommend that at least one child be really young—not a baby,
but just old enough to start looking like the child it will become—like about 2, 2-1/2, or 3.
This makes for an interesting and endearing portrait with the children of different sizes and maturities.
Even if adults are in the group, that's what I recommend.
Today's economy may put a little pause into commissioning a full oil portrait for some,
but you don't want to miss an extremely important time in your children's lives, do you?
My favorite age to portrait children is 2-1/2 to 5 at the top end of the bracket,
with the younger end
being the best. What can be more beautiful than the innocence of these young children?
Remember too that charcoal portraits are very affordable and can even be done at different stages of your children's lives.
All the best to you!
