Painted Portraits of Children: Gabriela with Pink Rose

Here is the first in a series of three painted portraits of First little sister captured in a series of 3 painted portraits of childrenchildren produced over a 6-year period. It set the stage for the two that followed. When it was done, the family was so moved that they wanted to share their joy and had an afternoon wine and cheese unveiling party for me. The father was especially gracious in his opening talk. I’ll never forget how nice the occasion was—(and I did get that special reward: more business). Here’s what the mother said in my studio when she saw the portrait:

“Oh, my gosh. I’m going to cry. It definitely looks like her. That’s beautiful. Something like this is priceless. You really can’t put a price on it. She looks so spiritual. There is a spirituality in the painting. You do that all the time. It gives you peace. I look at it and I get peace. I know what I’m going to be doing when I get it home—I’m going to look at it all the time.”

And I had to brush back a tear when the little girl said this to me: “It’s me! Thank you for painting my picture.”
