Even though I may write you most

often from the viewpoint of an artist creating oil portraits, I join each person on earth every day in all our activites. One that I want to point out is our creativity in making a myriad of things throughout our lives. From neatening a room, to cooking a pancake, making a trip, buying a postcard, writing an email, making an announcement, hearing and understanding someone’s troubles and don't forget how we jump to comfort them.

From another viewpoint, any man-made object that you could view is made from many hands: a postcard has your written note on it, the photo taken by a photographer, printed by a team of printers from ink made by a team of craftsmen onto paper make from another team of craftsmen, the stamp designed and painted by an artist, its printer, the trimmer, the glue recipe. How many people contribute to a loaf of bread bought from a grocery store? 10? 20? (How many people contribute to the canvases and oil portrait supplies that I use?) We are always causing effects, each one of us, every minute of every day. With all this going on, one can see there is no shortage of actions that a person can make in one’s life. One never has to worry about being able to create and cause things. To carry this a little further, one could make a goal and know that there could be no end of actions that one would be able to make towards attaining that goal. It could even be said that every action that one makes either supports one’s goals or doesn’t.

This year let’s celebrate our abilities to cause the things that make our lives better, our families better, our groups better, our nations and all mankind better. Let’s celebrate all the good actions that make this planet a friendlier place to live. And let’s know that we can keep doing that and we can create plenty of chances to make them better.

Here's to a happy, productive year, from Jessica and Gerry at Rockwell Portraits.
